The Texas Council for Exceptional Children has a long and distinguished history spanning over 50 years. Many well-known names in the special education field have been closely associated with TCEC over the decades of its existence and it has long been a strong and influential voice for special education professionals and for services to exceptional children in Texas.

The Texas CEC Federation is affiliated with the Council for Exceptional Children, the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. TCEC is comprised of all the CEC members within the state of Texas. When you become a member of CEC, you automatically become a member of the Texas CEC Federation.

Texas CEC (TCEC) is a non-profit organization including professional educators, related services personnel, and others working on behalf of individuals with exceptionalities. TCEC supports CEC to advance the educational success of students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents and support those who serve this special population.

TCEC provides its membership a means for networking and continuing professional development by sponsoring the Annual TCEC State conference and other professional development events, publishing quarterly newsletters, and supporting the activities and positions of the Council for Exceptional Children.

The Texas Council for Exceptional Children is governed by an Executive Board, consisting of elected officers and appointed chairs of various functions. All members of the TCEC Board are volunteers who give of their time for no compensation to support and promote the mission of CEC and TCEC. The Board meets quarterly to conduct the organization’s business. For more information about how to become more involved in TCEC or in the TCEC Board contact the current Board President. 

The TCEC constitution sets forth the policies and procedures under which TCEC and its Board operate. It is revised periodically by a majority vote of TCEC members. The TCEC constitution can be downloaded by clicking the link at the top of this page.
